What API Spec Applies to Oil for Turbo Engines?
I have an '86 Chrysler Le Baron, 2.2 turbo engine. Until now I used the API SG/CD spec. engine oil, which I can't find anymore. The CD spec, I know, is very important for turbos. Did the spec letters change? If yes, what should I look for? What oil I should use to be sure that the turbo will not die? Thank you, Constantin

The API Service Category SG is now obsolete. Since API SG was introduced, the use of turbochargers has risen dramatically. The most recent API Service Category (API SN) was developed with turbocharger performance in mind during development of the category. Oils meeting API SN should at least provide the minimum amount of protection for turbocharged engines. In our experience, full synthetic oils like Mobil 1 provide the most robust protection needed in the severe environments of a turbocharger.
