Switching a Camaro from Conventional to Synthetic Oil
I drive a '99 Camaro Z-28, LS-1 engine. 3 - 4 times a year, I autocross at my local car club. I've used 5W-30 Castrol and/or sometimes Pennzoil, and want to change over to a full synthetic or blend. I have over 50,000 miles on a Yamaha 750. The engine has never been torn down. I say that because I believe in your oil. It sees 5-7000 RPM frequently. I change the Mobil 1 and Fram filter every 2,000 miles as per the factory specs. When I pull the oil fill plug, the internals are spotless. Question: Will I have problems with my Camaro, converting from a crude conventional oil to the synthetic? The Camaro runs perfect, and has no oil leaks. It does use a ½ to 1 quart every 3,000 miles. I'm not concerned with that usage because I change the oil every 2,500 to 3,000 miles. I have heard rumors of oil leaks and oil consumption. I am thanking you in advance. Bill Thomas USN (Retired)

The specific product and grade will depend slightly on the mileage and recommendation for your vehicle. If your Camaro has low miles, we typically recommend our standard Mobil 1™ synthetic oil as it is perfectly tuned for your vehicle. If your Camaro has more than 75,000 miles on it, Mobil 1™ High Mileage contains extra anti-wear additives for added protection, and seal conditioner to help prevent leaks and reduce oil consumption. With an SAE 5W-30 recommended for your Camaro, we offer Mobil 1 High Mileage and our standard Mobil 1 in that grade.
