Do Oil Filters Wear Out Faster than the Motor Oil
I have been driving for 50 years. In the 50's and 60's I changed oil at 3,500-mile intervals. As oils got better, I extended the interval to 5,000 miles. I generally keep my cars for 100,000 plus miles. I never had any oil related problems that I am aware of. Now Toyota is telling me to use your Mobil 1 motor oil. My first oil change cost me $60+ dollars. Without your "Mobil 1" my oil changes used to cost $20. I have been told that I can extend my change interval to 15,000. If that is true then $60+ is reasonable. However, I have also been told that oil filters wear out much sooner than oil? I am very interested in what you have to say. Thanks. Arnie

Our recommendation is to always follow the oil change frequencies shown in your owner's manual; however, Mobil 1 is especially suitable for the latest vehicles with extended oil drain intervals. If you decide to go longer between oil change intervals, we recommend that you continue to change your oil filter when you change your engine oil. Special filters or more frequent oil filter changes are not required. Our Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filters provide outstanding protection during longer oil change intervals.
