Question:
Lack of a 10W-60 Viscosity in the Mobil 1 Synthetic Motor Oil Product Line
I have a 2004 BMW M3. The factory fill and claimed requirement to use for an oil change is a Castrol 10W-60 that's only available from the dealer currently for an exorbitant price. Your site claims that your 0W-40 will suffice for the needs of my engine, but from what I understand the 60 viscosity of the factory fill is the most important requirement in order to keep the motor from blowing up or something. Will Mobil eventually come up with a synthetic that will meet the 10W-60 stated requirement for my car?
-- John Gribble, Independence, MO
Answer:
Given the limited applications for 10W-60 fully synthetic products, it is not likely that Mobil 1 will introduce a 10W-60.
