Question:
Low Oil Pressure in a Jeep Grand Cherokee
I have used Mobil 1 Extended Performance as long as it has been available in my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 4 wheel drive SUV. I now get low oil pressure alarms after the engine becomes very warm. Gauge will drop to 0 PSI sometimes. The Jeep has 150,000 miles. What oil would you try to fix this intermittent problem?
-- Larry Bruggensmith, Louisville, KY
Answer:
Have you asked your mechanic about this issue? We would start with looking at the oil pressure-sending unit. We think there could also be some other mechanical issues that may be causing this issue.  A zero oil pressure is a very serious issue if, in fact, this gauge is accurate.
