Question:
Can Mobil 1 0W-40 be Used in a Dodge Neon Year-round?
I have a 2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4. As I understand it, my car calls for a 5W or 10W-30 oil. After the Neon was replaced by the Caliber, the SRT version came out with a factory fill of Mobil 1 0W-40. I've read that the 0W-40 shears down in many cases to a 30 weight oil not long after initial pour in, and am wondering if using a 0W-40 in my SRT-4 Neon would be suitable for use year round? Though my engine internals are stock, I am running the Mopar Performance Stage 3 turbo kit and am almost doubling the horsepower that is listed from the factory. Thanks for your time.

Answer:
Using Mobil 1 0W-40 is a good choice for year-round service in Las Vegas where there's a wide range of ambient temperatures. With the addition of the turbo, the higher viscosity of the 0W-40 should provide you the protection you need.
