Oil Drain Intervals for a Boat Motor
I use 12 quarts of Mobil 1™ oil and two Fram oil filters for my Chevy 454 boat motor. The dealer said I did not need to change the oil after two years because I did not use it and the oil was clean. Is he correct?
-- Randy Read, Carlsbad, CA
Depending on how often you use your boat, he could be correct. Regardless, we would recommend changing your oil at least once a year. As you store your boat after a season of use, there could be some combustion by-products and small amounts of water ingress which could slowly degrade the oil over time.
