Question:
Oil Change Intervals When Racing Motorcycles
I have a question regarding Mobil 1™ motorcycle racing oil. I race a Speedway Sidecar, on dirt track ovals. Our engine is an inline 4 Suzuki GSXR1000. We just switched to Mobil 1, have always heard good things about it. My question is: About how long should I go between changes? The same as my old race oils? Our race only lasts about a minute-but it is a furious minute. We run on or close to the rev limiter. I usually change after 4 events. About 12 to 15 races (minutes) on the oil. Can Mobil 1 go longer? Obviously you can't give me a direct answer, just looking for an idea. Thanks.-G

Answer:
For new racing applications outside of any standard manufacturer warranty, we typically recommend changing the oil based on your individual race experience, and then slowly extend the drain interval as you feel comfortable.  As you know, all racers perform differently and push their machines differently.  If your Suzuki is still under warranty, we suggest you follow your Owner’s Manual recommendations.
