Question:
Switching a Turbocharged Mazdaspeed3 to 10W-30 Oil
I have a 2008 (turbocharged) Mazdaspeed3 with 83,000 miles so the car is no longer under warranty. The manual had 7,500 miles as an oil change interval with conventional oil (5W-30). During the warranty I used Mobil 1 5W-30 and changed it out at 7,500 miles. Now that the warranty is over I would like to extend my drain time to 15,000 miles, and tighten the viscosity range a little and go to Mobil 1 10W-30 for a little added protection from heat. I live in southern California so cold weather is not an issue. I would gladly give up a tiny bit of gas mileage for added turbo protection and better hydraulic pressure for the variable valve timing! Remember this Mazda is no longer under warranty. Thanks.

Answer:
Mobil 1 10W-30 is an appropriate selection for your MazdaSpeed3.  Given that your Mazda has more than 75,000 miles on it, we could also recommend Mobil 1 High Mileage 10W-30 which provides advanced full synthetic oil protection for engines with over 75,000 miles.
