Question:
Any Reason to Switch Off a Semi-Synthetic Motor Oil in a Higher Mileage Truck?
I have a 2004 Ford E-150 with a 4.6 and 205,000 miles on it. I have changed my oil and filter every 4,000 miles with the same 5W-20 semi-synthetic oil. Should I stay with a semi-synthetic or would I be better off with a full-synthetic? It does not use or burn any oil.
-- Robert Lee, Rochester, NY
Answer:
You can stay with the semi-synthetic and use Mobil Clean 7500 which provides guaranteed protection for 7,500 miles or six months, whichever comes first.  Obviously, a full synthetic like Mobil 1 High Mileage will be ideal for your vehicle and will provide outstanding protection and a longer drain interval if you wished to upgrade.
