Question:
Is Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF Too "Slippery" for Synchros
I recently purchased 4 quarts of Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF multi-vehicle formula for my 55,000-mile Corvette 6-speed manual transmission. When I took the car to my well-known Chevy dealer to replace the transmission fluid, he did not want to install Mobil 1, claiming that the synchros would not work properly with the slippery synthetic oil. Since I had no knowledge, I could not question his warning. I still have the 4 quarts of Mobil 1 synthetic.  What is the answer? I am in two Corvette clubs each with over 300 members, what would be my recommendation if asked?

Answer:
It depends on the year of your vehicle. For late model Corvettes we recommend Mobil Dexron VI ATF which is specifically designed for late model GM vehicles. For all other model years, Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF will provide outstanding performance. Always consult your owner’s manual for requirements specific to your vehicle.
