Best Mobil 1 Oil for a 2012 Subaru WRX
I have heard many negative opinions of Mobil 1 (Extended Performance and original) having issues with shearing and issues with oil consumption in the Subaru WRX. I have run Mobil 1 full synthetic in a 1998 Dodge Neon in the past with amazing results, as well as in a 2007 Honda Civic Si. I did experience oil consumption in a 1989 Toyota Supra (turbo) which was considerably less of an issue with Valvoline full synthetic. My concern is that I now own a 2012 Subaru WRX and will be performing the first oil change. I live in Arizona where temperatures reach over 120° degrees in the summer. The owner’s manual requests that I use 5W-30 full synthetic, but I am curious if I should use your Mobil 1 0W-40 or your Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 for the best protection.

While your vehicle is still under warranty, we recommend you follow the viscosity grade guidelines as stated in your owner’s manual. For your WRX, we recommend Mobil 1 5W-30, or for our ultimate in performance and protection, Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 to meet your performance needs.
