Question:
Will Turbo Engine Suffer from Using 0W-30 Motor Oil?
I have been using Mobil 1 0W-30 Advanced Fuel Economy in my 2006 Saab 9-5 turbo. Now I am using the recommended Mobil 1 0W-40. Is there any adverse complications from having had used the 0W-30 with the turbo?
-- Jim Brown, Burlington, WI
Answer:
Mobil 1 0W-40 is recommended to give you some enhanced viscometric protection in your turbocharger over a 0W-30 viscosity grade.  We have successfully used other SAE 30 viscosity grade oils in turbocharged applications, and would expect no detrimental performance here.
