Question:
Any Problems Leaving in Oil That Has Been Dyed
While recently having an oil leak repaired on my 2008 Cadillac DTS at a Cadillac dealership they added a fluorescent dye to the oil. Any harm in leaving the oil in the engine with the dye in it? Or should I change it sooner than usual. I use only Mobil 1™ 5W-30. Is this oil compatible with dyes that GM uses?
-- Ian Swartz, New York, NY
Answer:
Although we do not have any specific data, we don’t think the dyes will cause any problems since they are typically used at very low levels.  We suggest that you contact your GM dealer.
