Is Mobil 1 15W-50 Okay to Use in a Ford F-150?
I purchased a 1992 F-150 with a 4.9 I-6. The vehicle has 143,000 miles on it and runs well. The service history shows oil changes that include the use of 10W-30, 5W-30, 10W-40 and 20W-50 but never synthetic oil. The engine does not have any noticeable knocks or taps now and there are no apparent oil leaks. I have not taken of the valve cover off to check for sludge or varnish. I plan on keeping the truck for many more miles and years. Will using Mobil 1 15W-50 have any adverse effects? Do you recommend it in trucks like this one? I have heard these Ford I-6 engines are capable of 250,000 or more miles without much more than normal service and maintenance. I will be using the truck in South Texas where temps can get over 110°F for weeks at a time. The engine has push rods and a conventional valve train. I use Mobil 1 in all of my other engines (including my lawn mower) and champion it to my friends.

In hot climates like south Texas, Mobil 1 15W-50 would be a great choice as it will provide the durability you are looking for. Mobil 1 is an excellent choice for high mileage vehicles. If you want to maintain fuel economy, don't hesitate to continue using a 10W-30 either. Mobil 1 High Mileage 10W-30 would also be a good choice
