Question:
Any Problems Using an Oil Bypass Filter and Synthetic Oil in a Pickup?
I have a 2002 F-250 7.3 liter diesel with 133,000 miles on it. I have been looking towards some items that should lengthen its life span. One of those is an Oil Bypass filter (particulate > 5 micron). The other was to switch to synthetic oil. Are there any implications for using these together? My truck is a general purpose use and towing. I routinely, every couple of weeks, haul approximately 2500 pounds with the truck itself. Additionally I have three different trailers that I pull with my truck, the largest and heaviest would be my 4 horse gooseneck. It currently does not have any leaks or known mechanical issues.

Answer:
Both improvements you are making should definitely improve vehicle life. We recommend you use Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40. It will provide outstanding lubrication at both high and low temperatures. The 5W will ensure you get the top end lubricated as quickly as possible even on the coldest day and the SAE 40 viscosity will protect your vehicle at high temperature while providing outstanding High Temperature/High Shear (HT/HS) viscosity while towing those heavy loads. Also make sure your air intake system is leak free and use a high quality air filter.
