Question:
Value of Changing to Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40
I have a 1992 Mercedes Benz 300D 2.5 turbo diesel that I have been using Kendall 15W-40 Super D 3 in. It has 300,000 miles and it uses no oil between changes.  Also I have a 2001 F350 7.3 liter turbo diesel that has 80,000 miles on it. I use Kendall 15W-40 SHP oil in it.  I also have a 2001 Mercedes E320 that has 120,000 miles on it that has used Mobil 1 0W-40, 229.5 spec.  I recently changed this car over to Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40.  I also have a 2003 BMW 330i that has 75,000 miles on it, and I recently changed from Mobil 1 0W-40 to the Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40 figuring since it was the most updated Mobil 1 product, and my Mercedes dealer said it was backward compatible in my Mercedes it would be fine in my BMW.  Since all my vehicles are out of warranty and I keep them forever, I would like to get 500,000 miles out of all of them.  I was wondering if I could change all of them over to Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40 motor oil?

Answer:
You can use either product for this application, but since you do not have a diesel particulate filter on any of these vehicles, we would recommend you use Mobil 1 0W-40.
