I bought my new Honda Civic LX in the summer of 2008 and enrolled it as my latest commuter car. I chose the Civic because of the outstanding reliability record and excellent fuel economy. I drive over 120 miles a day and in the five months that I've owned it, I have racked up over 12,000 miles. I consider myself an enthusiastic driver and like to toss my car around in the corners. This car was designed for fuel economy and not so much for speed. I didn't want to give up fuel economy but I want a car that handles well so I retrofitted the high performance sway bars from the Civic SI into my LX. This makes it much more sure-footed and it sticks to the road like it's on rails. Even on my daily commutes I can have some fun diving into the highway exit off-ramps without touching the brakes. I do all the maintenance on my Civic myself including, of course, oil changes. To make oil changes easier and quicker, I installed an oil drain valve. I can literally change the oil faster than the quickie lube shops and I also get peace of mind of knowing exactly what goes into my car.
Accumulating high miles like this, I would be doing oil changes every month if I were to use conventional motor oil. When it came time for the first oil change, I needed to choose an oil that could handle long service intervals and cold Boston mornings. Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-20 synthetic has all the attributes I was looking for, making it an easy choice. I can trust that even with longer oil change intervals (which is what this oil was designed for), Mobil 1 EP will not break down and will continue to keep things running smoothly. The morning winter temperatures here in the Boston area regularly drop to the single digits. In conditions like this, conventional motor oils do not flow as freely as synthetics and this results in harder cold starts (engine wear). Mobil 1 synthetic maintains its flow characteristics on the coldest mornings and the car easily springs to life and sounds as if it were a warm summer day. I combine the Mobil 1 EP oil with a Mobil 1 EP oil filter and I've got a combination that can't be beat. I plan to keep this car for a long time but when it does come time to retire it, I am confident that it won't be due to engine wear because I'm a loyal Mobil 1 customer and this car will be running with Mobil 1 for its entire life.
