Mobil 1™ V-Twin 20W-50
No. of years owned:
I bought this bike from a private owner. It looked great but had control and mechanical issues due to the fact the previous owner did not know what he was doing mechanically. But after some tinkering and parts this bike is as good as she looks.
When I bought it I wanted a bike as close to my 1976 bike that I beat to death when I was a bit younger (sad story!). I give this one all the respect and care I can because of that. When I bought it I originally had planned to repaint it but that's been shelved due to the beauty of black and orange. I don't like a lot of chrome; polished aluminum is classier and classic (just enough is good). I also returned a lot of equipment to stock configuration for handling. I replaced the stock buckhorn bars with shorter, straighter bars I got at a yard sale; no regrets with them. I'm still reworking the electrics and lights to stock config. I replaced the original points with a Crane H1-4N electronic module and Crane single fire coil, and she breathes through a S&S Super E. I've rebuilt the front forks (and added a fork brace) and the front and rear brakes. I've also installed new swingarm bearings, probably the newest stock '77 around!
Using Mobil 1™ synthetic oil makes for easier starts in cold weather, and longer engine life.
