I purchased my Taurus from the local Ford dealer in late 1999-early 2000 as a program car. This Taurus SE 24v d.o.h.c. 3.0 liter was being used as a demo and had approximately 16,000 miles. I immediately changed the oil and installed Mobil 1 5W-30 for the first 160,000 miles. From there to 235,000 miles I have been using Mobil 1 15W-50 with either a Mobil 1 filter or a Fram Extreme guard filter. Oil change intervals have been between 6 and 8,000 miles. Mileage accumulated has been 80-85% city & 15-20% highway (Pittsburgh, PA area).
Oil usage and engine power are about the same as when I first purchased the car. With Mobil 1 protecting this engine in constant stop-and-go driving in cold and hot weather, I am convinced this engine will continue operating as is for another 235,000 miles.
