Are there any special steps I should follow when using cartridge-style Mobil 1™ Extended Performance oil filters?

The filter box says that Mobil 1™ Extended Performance Oil Filters contain a synthetic fiber blend filter element. Are these related to the synthetic components found in Mobil 1 synthetic motor oils?

Are there any special steps I should follow when using cartridge-style Mobil 1™ Extended Performance oil filters?
Simply follow these six essential steps for easy installation:
  1. Use the proper cap tool to remove the oil cap
  2. Observe the positioning of the o-ring in the o-ring groove, then remove the old o-ring without damaging the plastic or metal cap
  3. Clean the cap and housing carefully
  4. Lubricate the new o-ring and cap seat completely with clean motor oil
  5. Install the new o-ring in the o-ring groove so it does not touch the cap’s threads
  6. Replace the cap and torque it with the correct tool to the recommended foot-pound spec

No. Most conventional oil filters use a filter medium that is made of cellulose – typically wood fiber – and polyester fibers. Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filters combine a mixture of synthetic micro fibers and natural fibers to produce a highly efficient oil filter.
 
The synthetic fibers in Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filters yield the following key benefits:
  • A much more efficient filter, removing more particles per pass through the filter than conventional filter media.
  • Less resistance to oil flow, reducing the potential for the filter to restrict the flow of oil to your engine.
  • A larger surface area to trap more contaminant particles, allowing the longer service intervals.

Absolutely. We recommend that you use Mobil 1 synthetic oil to get maximum protection for your engine, but the Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filter is fully compatible with conventional motor oils.
