The molecules in Mobil 1™ synthetic motor oil are more uniform in size than those in conventional oils, and this uniformity reduces friction in your engine, as seen in the illustration below. Simply put, less internal friction helps your engine last longer.
The fluid properties of the Mobil 1 synthetic base stocks keep critical engine parts apart, preventing friction, at a much wider operating range than conventional products. Plus the additives in Mobil 1 oils are carefully selected and matched to the base stock fluids, which contributes to the outstanding wear protection available when using Mobil 1 synthetic oil. These are just two of the ways that Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil keeps your engine running like new.
Helps Minimize Engine Wear
Motor oil contributes to an engine's performance in many ways. One is the ability to control wear. Automakers establish limits or standards that oils must meet in order to be approved for use. In the US, the current industry performance standard is known as ILSAC GF-5 , and it consists of a series of tests, which focus on key engine oil benefits including wear protection, extreme temperature performance, engine cleanliness, emission system protection and fuel economy. The ILSAC GF-5 industry standard is designed to provide excellent engine protection for new vehicles that require this level of performance.
In testing for wear, an engine lubricated by Mobil 1 synthetic oil exhibited wear (see charts below) that is far below the industry standards.
Mobil 1 minimizes wear by:
Neutralizing harmful acids to protect critical engine parts so your vehicle exhibits strong performance over a long period of time.
Maintaining excellent viscosity control.
Providing exceptional protection and durability to help minimize the harmful iron particles that accumulate over time and increase wear.
Real-Life Field Testing
To prove the protection of our oils in some of the toughest conditions, we test in real situations. Watch the testing of Mobil 1™ Extended Performance in Las Vegas taxis, where engines are pushed to the limit. The oil was changed every 15,000 miles.
